Carl Jones Coggan Carl J. Jones Coggan (December 27, 1932 – August 9, 1978) was an American lawyer and philanthropist, the father of modern legal technology. Early was born in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Yale Law School to complete his public law degree at Yale Law School on July 1,1937. He joined the New York American Legal Aid Society, the second institution for lawyers, in 1949, and began serving as a spokesman for the New York City attorneys that hired him. He started his legal career in 1960, but failed in the big international press. In 1961 he withdrew from the New York Press Council and fled to Los Angeles and Paris where he spent an early decade and a half with the Wall Street Bank. In 1964 he became very effective in legal practice. He lectured in American University Law before being appointed as President of the American Legal Aid Society in 1964.
